(re)wind: Veronica Webb & Marcellas Reynolds on the Exclusivity of Beauty
transforming the culture of fashion from frivolity to self-love, empowerment, and survival 👠ðŸ‘
Welcome to this, our final week of THE IDEALISTS. (re)wind series,
This week, I wanted to lead off with a…. controversial question: Amidst a culture that is adamant we’re ALL beautiful, do you secretly hold old-school ideas about beauty?Â
In this week’s episode, we revisit a hilarious and some might say controversial conversation where we delve into JUST THAT with celebrity stylist extraordinaire, entertainment journalist, filmmaker, and author of Supreme Models: Iconic Black Women Who Revolutionized Fashion, Marcellas Reynolds.
Marcellas is joined by Veronica Webb, international supermodel, actress, and writer. Veronica has appeared on the covers of Vogue, Essence, and Elle Magazine as well as on the runway for Victoria's Secret and Chanel. In this episode, Marcellas and Veronica explore self-love as a means of survival, the rarity of excellence, and how to use fashion as armor.
Oh, and by the way, you don't have to secretly hold all your thoughts and opinions on this episode in your head. We have a new and gorgeous linen-bound journal coming out on December 20th that will hold plenty of space for your tenderest (and even contradictory) ideas, ideals, and breakthroughs. Stay tuned for the pre-order link—coming any day now!
In the meantime, I found my conversation with Marcellas and Veronica genuinely illuminating when I first heard it, and now, even more, as I think about how we grow THE IDEALISTS. into a more inclusive and compelling space for discourse.
You can listen to the episode here.
